How do you build familiarity from scratch? That's what we are curious about with AWE, whether that's getting to know a new plant, a new art form, or a new landscape or community. Come for a fun and relaxing after-hours at North Mississippi Regional Park—just a click north of downtown. We'll meet up at the beautiful Carl Kroening Nature Center at 5:30, but feel free to come early if you'd like to walk the trails before the meeting starts.
For this gathering we are keeping the presentation time short and the chat time long. The evening features inaugural MNPAiR artist Stephanie Lindquist and her experience exploring the plants at the park, her artist and naturalist collaborations, and her outdoor willow sculpture project that will draw attention to the park's goal to earn an urban dark sky designation.
We'll be hands-on learning how dogbane, a native milkweed, can be harvested and twisted to create strong rope during a 45-minute open making and conversation time. If you love natural materials and are interested in helping us with the activity, be sure to sign up to volunteer when you register, no experience with dogbane or twining necessary.
